Kathmandu: The Nepali Congress Kathmandu Metropolitan Committee has lit lamps in memory of those martyred during the Gen-G movement. The tribute program was held at Shanti Batika in the capital on Saturday evening in the presence of Congress Central General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa.

Central Committee Member Ajay Babu Shiwakoti and several other party leaders also attended the program. Speaking on the occasion, leaders reaffirmed that the sacrifices of the Gen-G generation must be honored and their demands addressed.
Gagan Thapa’s Support for Gen-G
Thapa and his group within the Nepali Congress have been vocal about addressing the concerns of Gen-G even before the protests began. They have repeatedly stated that as the current generation, the Gen-Gs’ voices deserve respect and recognition.
Call for Leadership Change
The Gen-G protests on Bhadra 23 were aimed against corruption and the suppression of social media. The Oli-led government’s response — which left 72 people dead due to indiscriminate firing — has intensified calls for change.
Thapa’s group has stressed that the Congress must undergo generational transformation, hold a special general convention, and go into the next elections with new leadership to do justice to the aspirations of Gen-G.
